Healthy Shoulders in Yoga
Open Your Shoulders for Yoga
Building Arm & Shoulder Strength
In these three classes, we will devote our attention to building strength and flexibility in the shoulders, while focusing on healthy alignment and movement patterns needed in Yoga. You will leave with a short routine to integrate into your home practice, which will support your progress into more challenging Yoga poses.
Hands & Wrists
We humans use our hands and wrists all day long in our household activities, keyboard work, and of course in yoga poses when we bear weight on our arms. In the fourth class, we’ll look at the anatomy and optimal alignment of these important joints, and how to protect them from strain. Then we’ll practice yoga poses with weight bearing on the arms, with special focus on set-up and props to keep the hands, wrists, and fingers happy.
Props: Mat, blanket, strap, 2 blocks, chair
These classes are intended for students with at least a year of Yoga experience, or Paxson Yoga level 3 or above. They are not appropriate for anyone with an acute injury or significantly limited mobility.
