Our muscles have variations and tendencies based on their physiological make-up. Understanding which types of fibers muscles consist of helps determine how to approach those muscles in your yoga practice. Knowing when to focus on stretching, strengthening, stabilizing, or coordination can enrich not just your understanding, but the effectiveness of your yoga experience.
You could just wait until your yoga instructor asks you to do the next pose or you can gain the knowledge to determine why certain sequences and orientations towards muscle groups can optimize your outcome.
